St. Lucie 7 - Florida 3

The St. Lucie Mets plated four runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away for a 7-3 win over the Florida Fire Frogs on Friday at First Data Field.

Patrick Mazeika went 3 for 5 and drove in two late runs in the winning effort. Wuilmer Becerra collected two hits and extended his hitting streak to eight games. He scored three runs over the final four innings.

Mets first round draft pick Justin Dunn held the Fire Frogs to three runs (two earned) over 5.1 innings. He left with a 3-1 lead but the Mets defense committed an error that tied the game 3-3 and Dunn was unable to qualify for the win.

Mets relievers Justin Brantley and Alex Palsha combined to no-hit the Fire Frogs over the final 3.2 innings. Brantley got the win.

Meanwhile, the Fire Frogs bullpen gave up six runs and eight hits over four innings.

With the game tied 1-1 in the fifth, J.C. Rodriguez ripped a two-run double to put the Mets up 3-1.

Florida was able to tie the game 3-all in the sixth, but the Mets took the lead for good in the seventh. Anthony Dimino started the inning with a single. He stole second base, went to third on Becerra’s infield single and scored on a wild pitch to give the Mets 4-3 advantage. Mazeika drove in Becerra with a base hit later in the inning.

In the eighth, John Mora doubled and went on to score on a wild pitch. Mazeika knocked in Becerra with another single to make it 7-3.

Mazelka and Becerra are St Lucie's two best hitters and are really showing it.
