BINGHAMTON AVOIDS BROOMS, HAND SEA DOGS FIRST LOSS: Despite squandering a one-run ninth-inning lead, the Rumble Ponies rallied to plate one in the 11th frame to beat Portland, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon. Starting pitcher Tyler Pill allowed two runs over 5.0 innings, but both were unearned, stretching his scoreless innings streak to  10.1 frames to begin the season. Binghamton finished its season-opening six-game road trip with a 3-3 record.

BINGHAMTON  STARTER: Double-A rookie P.J. Conlon looks for his second win of the season Thursday evening. In game two of an Opening Day doubleheader, Conlon tossed five innings of two-run baseball against New Hampshire in an 8-2 Rumble Ponies victory. Last season, the Irish-born left-hander was named the Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year after posting a 12-2 record with a 1.65 ERA in 23 combined starts with Columbia and St. Lucie.

ERIE STARTER: SeaWolves left-hander Tyler Alexander makes his second start of the 2017 season on Thursday. On April 8 versus Trenton, Alexander’s stellar start was spoiled by the bullpen in a 6-2 Erie loss. The 22-year old lasted five innings without allowing a run and walked just one. Alexander made his final start of the 2016 season against Binghamton at NYSEG Stadium. In one of his best performances of the season, Alexander limited the B-Mets to two hits in six shutout innings. The southpaw earned the win in a 2-0 final. A 2nd round pick out of Texas Christian University, Alexander is in his 3rd professional season after going 8-8 with a 2.44 ERA last season with Erie and Lakeland (DET:High-A).

EXTRA! EXTRA!: Binghamton and Portland played consecutive extra-inning games to finish up their three-game set at Hadlock Field. Last season, Binghamton played back-to-back extra inning games twice, but never against the same team. On 4/20 Binghamton fell to Akron, 3-2, in ten innings, before dropping the series-opener against Erie, 10-8, in ten frames. Then on 6/9 & 6/10, Binghamton earned a pair of 3-2 home wins against Trenton (13 innings) and Hartford (12 innings).

CONLON v ALEXANDER, ROUND II: On 6/30/16, P.J. Conlon, then a member of St. Lucie, started against Tyler Alexander and the Lakeland Flying Tigers (DET: High-A). Both pitchers dazzled with Conlon allowing just one hit and no runs over four innings, while Alexander gave up two hits and no runs through six innings. Current Rumble Pony Ben Griset eventually earned the win and Corey Taylor the save, in a 6-3 Mets win.

GUILLORME GOES OFF: In Wednesday’s 4-3 win, Rumble Ponies infielder Luis Guillorme went 5-for-5 at the dish. Guillorme never had more than three hits in a game last season and once had four hits in the 2015 season. His only other five-hit performance was on 8/8/14 with Kingsport (R).
